Greece 2015: A Night Out in Ermoupoli

This afternoon we will be getting the ferry back to the mainland. Not a high speed service – we’ll be on one of the regular ferries which takes cars, lorries and coaches – so the journey will be about 4.5 hours. A leisurely stroll back to Athens.

Syros 2013 – Second Time to Ermoupoli: Vaporia District

I wrote a few days ago about our first visit to Ermoupoli, when we walked around the Vrontado district (the hill on the right in the photo above). We actually took the bus in to Ermoupoli 3 times. The second time, we walked around Vaporia (Βαπόρια) – the district hidden by that big boat…

Syros 2013 – Ermoupoli: Capital of the South Aegean

The capital of Syros – Ermoupoli (Ερμούπολη) – is also the capital of the South Aegean Region. Until the local government reforms of 2011 which saw the Prefectures abolished, Ermoupoli was also the capital of the Cyclades Prefecture.

Syros 2013 – Getting to Syros

I’m now back from my holidays in Greece. This year we’ve been to the Cyclades (Κυκλάδες) – staying in Galissas (Γαλησσάς) on the small island of Syros (Σύρος).
