Local Radio

Fred in the Studio - July 2009Radio is something which I have been interested in since the age of 10, when I first started listening to Wake Up to Wogan on BBC Radio 2. I was always keen to find out how the studio equipment worked and wanted to have my own radio show.

It wasn’t long before my “dream” came true: in February 2006 a group of 20 people (me included) met to discuss the possibility of starting up a community radio station in my home town: Cirencester.

Many months went in to planning it and in May 2006, Corinium Radio broadcast for 2 days. In this first broadcast, I had a 1 hour music show: Fred Hart’s Magazine Show. With the help of Alex Tallon I played a wide range of music – including Van Morrison, M-People and Robbie Williams.

My involvement has grown massively since the first broadcast: it still amazes me to think it was over 3 years ago! In June 2006, I set up the website at coriniumradio.co.uk and I have been running it ever since.

I am also involved with the technical side of running the station – I have good knowledge on how the mixing desk and computers work; since June 2008 I have been involved with the breakfast show where I run the desk… something I also do for programmes such as Sport & Leisure and News from the Schools. At the end of each broadcast, its usually me left with the task of making copies of our programmes available on CD to other team members.

I am still involved in presenting and in July 2009 I presented my 7th programme, now known as “Music from the Decades“, with the help of Luke Thrussell. I also presented Friday Lunch where I interviewed the local MYP (Member of Youth Parliament), who is actually a friend from school!

Corinium Radio will continue to grow over the next few months and years. Currently, the team are looking at changing the constitution to allow us to set up lots of smaller sub-groups who will each look after different aspects of running the station.
