Porto Rafti Beach

Porto Rafti (and Avlaki) both have a selection of bars and tavernas; listening to people talking around me they were mostly Greek and because of the proximity to Athens many Athenians come here for their days out to the beach.



Panathenaic Stadium

One interesting site I went to last time I visited Athens was the Panathenaic Stadium/Παναθηναϊκό Στάδιο. Built of marble, it dates back to 330 BC and the stadium hosted the first Modern Olympic Games in 1896.



Changing of the Guards

As 11am approached police officers started getting their whistles out to move people away from the guards so that they are behind the cordon. Then, as crowds started to grow, we heard the sound of the music as the band approached.



Weekend in Athens

After breakfast this morning Corrie and I took a taxi from Lygia to the bus station (the ΚΤΕΛ terminal) in Lefkada’s main town. Shortly after 09:30 we departed on the coach for a weekend away in the Greek capital Athens.

Greece 2015: Good Morning from Athens

I was amazed that, even in a city like Athens which gets very large numbers of tourists each month, the waiter in the restaurant remembered me from my last visit there! I only ate there once – he must have served thousands of people since late July last year.
