Lion Chased Up A Tree… By A DOG!??

Adolescent Cougar

There’s an interesting article on the BBC website today, entitled ‘Mountain Lion Trapped Up Tree by Jack Russell‘.

A 150lb/68kg male mountain lion (or cougar) has been chased up a tree by a 17lb/8kg jack russell terrier dog called Jack, on a farm in South Dakota (USA).

Interestingly, Prof. Jonathan Jenks who is an expert on cougar migration has said that normally it takes two or three hounds to corner this sort of animal. He said that the one in this case probably wasn’t hungry enough to attack Jack (that’s reassuring)!

Scroll down to the end of the article, and you’ll see that in 2006, a ginger cat (also called Jack) chased a black bear up a tree in New Jersey (USA)… when the bear eventually climbed down, Jack the cat simply chased it up another tree; the bear escaped only when Jack’s owner called him in.

I think the only black thing my ginger cat has chased up a tree is my other cat. There are no black bears here in Cirencester! 😀
